The Taiwanese have the most power because they have the largest numbers. Mainlanders are people who fled the mainland, China, in 1949 when the communists took over. They have shaky relations with the Taiwanese. The aborigines are the least privileged social group. They live in small villages. They were the indigenous people that first came to the island. The official language is Mandarin Chinese. The religions are Buddhism, Taoism, and some folk traditions. All the dishes of Taiwan has have something unique about them.
